One of Sondheim’s most popular works, this Tony Award-winning musical takes everyone’s favourite storybook characters and brings them together for a timeless yet relevant modern classic.

The story follows a Baker and his wife, who wish to have a child; Cinderella, who wishes to attend the King's Festival; and Jack, who wishes his cow would give milk. When the Baker and his wife learn that they cannot have a child because of a Witch's curse, the two set off on a journey to break the curse. Everyone's wish is granted, but the consequences of their actions return to haunt them later with disastrous results.

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Die Zauberflöte

The annual staged opera in Koerner Hall will be Mozart’s popular Magic Flute, conducted by Jennifer Tung and directed by Allison Grant. In this masterful comedy about love, truth, and the pursuit of enlightenment, prince Tamino sets off to rescue Pamina, the beautiful daughter of the Queen of the Night, from the mysterious Sarastro. But with the help of the bird catcher Papageno and three Spirits as their guide, Tamino discovers an even bigger adventure, and is united with his love along the way. Sung in German with English surtitles.

Students from The Glenn Gould School’s vocal program present The Glenn Gould School Chamber Opera on two evenings in November. This season’s offering will be a double bill of Maurice Ravel’s L'enfant et les sortilèges in a chamber reduction of piano four hands, flute, and cello, and Claude Debussy’s L’enfant prodigue in a chamber reduction for nine instrumentalists and piano with a new libretto, sung in English. Conducted by Connor O’Kane and directed by Mabel Wonnacott.

Commemorate the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation

with Tanya Tagaq, Emma Pennell, and others

To commemorate the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation, Indigenous artists gather to reflect, pay respect, and to give hope to survivors of residential schools. Headlined by the internationally celebrated Inuit singer Tanya Tagaq performing with the Royal Conservatory Orchestra conducted by Jennifer Tung, the evening will include healing laughter, storytellers, testimony, traditional drum and dance, performances by the Manitou Mkwa Singers, The Glenn Gould School soprano Emma Pennell, and others. Hosted by CBC’s Falen Johnson and curated by Denise Bolduc.
